RE: Coronavirus Action Plan

Based on California Department of Public Health Guidance surrounding the prevention of COVID-19 transmission for gatherings, St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) has made the difficult decision to temporarily close programs until April 6, 2020.

Effective Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 3:00 pm through Friday, April 3, 2020, SMSC Adult Day Service Programs will be closed.

This includes all services and activities provided at the following locations:

  • SMSC Main Campus (2119 East Madison Avenue, El Cajon, CA 92019)
  • Sophie’s Gallery El Cajon (140 East Main Street, El Cajon, CA 92020)

Supported Employment-Individual Placement services will continue as long as job sites remain open.

During this time we will continue to closely monitor developments related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) to see if an extended closure should be recommended.

If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the appropriate program at the information below.

Morning Glory Brunch Rescheduled to April 2021

We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your interest in supporting St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center through our 19th Morning Glory Brunch.  Unfortunately, with ever-changing events and recent recommendations by public health officials to slow the spread of COVID-19, we have decided to reschedule the event to April 2021.

As we continue to work to serve our mission during these trying times, it is with disappointment for our staff, students and guests that we do not get to invite the community to this beautiful campus and showcase our garden and aquatics programs.  If you would like to show your support for these two unique and valuable programs you can make a donation by mail or CLICK HERE to donate online today.

For now, please look to the future with us, stay positive and join us for our Haute with Heart Fashion Show & Luncheon on August 29, 2020!

Thank you for your understanding.  We wish the best of health and safety for you and your loved ones.    Should you have any questions please contact myself or for event related questions contact Julie Rausch at 619-442-5129 ext. 352 or

How long have you been volunteering at St Madeleine Sophie’s Center?

I’ve been volunteering at SMSC for about a month now as a teacher’s aide in the Women’s Health and Social Skills curriculum classes. I’m having a blast and learning so much from the students.

It’s so great!

Why did you decide to become a volunteer?

I decided to volunteer here because I’m passionate about education. I’ve been a tutor for 5 years now and knowing that I have the opportunity here to teach as well is just wonderful. I truly believe in the mission statement of the organization and hope I can aid in some small way in educating SMSC students!

What is your favorite thing about volunteering here?

My favorite part has been teaching and getting to know the students. Honestly, coming here is the highlight of my week. I always get so excited and all my students are so kind and loving towards me. It’s so rewarding to see their faces light up when they learn something new….ahhh I just love it so much!!!

How long have you been volunteering at St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center?

I began volunteering in September of 2019

Why did you decide to become a volunteer?

My daughter, Kelsey, is a student at SMSC. After retiring in June of 2019, I wanted to give some of my free time to a worthy cause like St. Madeleine Sophies Center. I was also very interested in seeing where Kelsey spent a lot of her time each week.

What are your favorite things about volunteering?

I have enjoyed a lot of things, but there are 3 things in particular that have been enjoyable:

1) Working as an Aide to Dolores Knight in the Occupational Opportunities class each week. She makes the class fun and interesting for all of us!

2) Feeling a part of the community more and more each week. The students have shown a genuine interest in who I am and have been very welcoming and kind!

3) Watching how Kelsey interacts with so many other people. This is a side of her I had not seen before. I can now relate much better to her day-to-day experiences.
